IDT 5030: Emerging Trends in Instructional Technology and Simulations
Course Description:
This 6-week online course is exploration of games and simulations: the evaluation, design, and infusion of games and simulations in instructional settings. Students will create a process for using multimedia and visual basic applications for developing instructional materials, presentations, and games.
Instructor:
Dr. Robbie K. Melton
Course Reflection:
This course challenged me to explore and consider multimedia resources for instruction. From simple, lower-tech sites such as Merlot to high-tech extended-reality with HP Reveal, I saw how learners can benefit from the many ways that instruction can be presented and designers can build in active learning and interactivity into their lessons. Tools explored in this course include websites and apps such as: Google Classroom, Hololens, Articulate Rise, Chatbot, Makerspace, Justinmind, Socrative, Slideshare, Timetoast, Storyboardthat, CoSpaces, Blippar, Layar. I developed skills in creating mobile learning content, using social media in instruction, coding, and selecting and creating virtual and augmented reality experiences. I also enjoyed exploring my personal readiness to design instruction through several reflective exercises. This made me realize how creative I can be and how much fulfillment I receive when creating things that are useful to others.
